Alright guys! The wait is now finally over. GreenPois0n Absinthe tool hasbeen released that will allow you to jailbreak both iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered running on iOS 5.0.1. This is the full guide on jailbreaking the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered with this tool.

Pod2g released the untethered jailbreak for the A4 devices at the end of Dec 2011. He has been working since then to find a untethered jailbreak exploit for the A5 devices as well. Finally, with the help of the “Dream Team”, he has managed to pull it off and the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 have been jailbroken.

Note:The iPad 2 (Wifi/GSM/CDMA) can only be jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1. However, the GreenPois0n Absinthe tool will jailbreak the iPhone 4S on both iOS 5 (9A334) and iOS 5.0.1 (9A405 amd 9A406).

Update 3: GreenPois0n Absinthe v0.3 has been released for Windows, Mac and Linux. New users download it while there is no need for existing users to re-jailbreak as the changes brought by the update are not significant.

Update 4: GreenPois0n Absinthe v0.4 has been released for Windows, Mac and Linux! It can be downloaded from this post. New users should use it while the existing users who have already jailbroken don’t need to re-jailbreak as the update just enhances the jailbreaking experience for new users.

Steps
Step 1: Using iTunes or any other method, make a backup of your iDevice.

Step 2: Attach the iPhone 4S/ iPad 2 you prefer to jailbreak.

Note: Those who want a carrier unlock for iPhone 4S should apply this jailbreak on iOS 5.0.

Step 3: Start the GreenPois0n Absinthe tool and hit the jailbreak button shown in this image after making sure that your device is detected.

Step 4: Be patient as the tool jailbreaks your iPhone 4S/ iPad2.

Step 5: After completion, you’ll find an icon named “Absinthe” on your iPhone 4S/ iPad 2. Click it and greenpois0n.com will open which is going to install Cydia on your device replacing the Absinthe icon as shown in this image.

Note: Users who receive a message saying “error establishing a database connection” should not panic as Planetbeing, the hacker and the member of the “Dream Team” has a solution for them. The “error establishing a database connection” can be fixed by going to Settings > General > Network > VPN > On. Try this solution and you won’t receive this error.
